Welcome to the new Arts Council
|
The Director of the Arts Council, Patricia Quinn, together with Council staff today welcomed the appointment of Chairperson Olive Braiden and newly appointed members of the Arts Council.
The members of the new Council are: Olive Braiden - Chairperson Noelle Campbell Sharpe, Director Cill Rialaig Artist Retreat and Origin Gallery Willie Doherty, Artist Theo Dorgan, Poet and Broadcaster Jerome Hynes, (Deputy Chairperson) Chief Executive, Wexford Festival Opera Philip King, Filmmaker and musician Rosaleen Linehan, Actress Orlaith McBride, Director, National Association of Youth Drama John McGahern, Writer Una O MurchU, Artistic Director, Bru Boru, Cashel Mary Nunan, Choreographer, Dancer and Lecturer Emer O Kelly, Theatre Critic Patrick Sutton, Director, Gaiety School of Acting
The 12th Arts Council replaces the members of the 11th Council, whose term of office ends today. On behalf of all staff who worked with the outgoing Council, I would like to express my thanks to them for five years of hard work and commitment said Patricia Quinn.
The Minister has signed the Commencement Order that brings the Arts Act 2003 into effect from today. Speaking at the announcement of the new Council, the Minister said The Arts Act will ensure that the creativity and energy of Irish artists will be encouraged and supported during the forthcoming decades of the third millennium. As Minster for Arts I look forward to my new role of promoting the arts at home and abroad and supporting the arts as an integral part of Government policy.
